Ask DNA: They Must Be Related
Ranging from the superficial to the OMG-I-was-you-in-a-past-life, here are the characters which remind me of Spike, even if the only thing they have in common is their hair, or they look nothing alike but act in a similar manner.
->> Lupin III (Lupin III)
This is the first character that would leap to most people's minds when talking about resemblances to Spike. From the way they walk (somewhat bowlegged) to the way they dress (brightly colored suits) and the way they act towards their allies and enemies (with smirking indifference or surprising intensity), they are almost identical. But then, most people know that many things in Cowboy Bebop were intentionally created to parallel or pay tribute to anime's most popular and enigmatic thief. Even their strangely contradicting behaviors are similar. Both seem innately crooked (and are grubby little thieves in their souls) but are also capable of immense compassion. Even their vulnerabilities are the same: a woman.
->> Mugen and Jin (Samurai Champloo)
Mugen is often compared to Spike, considering the poofy hair, the unkempt but cool appearance, and an indifference toward the world in general. Both of them appear reckless and carefree. But Mugen's a lot more bloodthirsty than Spike, and far more clumsy at expressing himself. Spike's fighting style is closer to Jin's for me. Although Mugen's high kicks and breakdance-like brawling style appears deceptively like Spike's Jeet Kune Do, it really isn't. Mugen leaves far too many openings and is too flamboyant. Spike's insanely fast, precisely calculated, and effortless moves are mirrored more by Jin. Jin is also just as clumsy at expressing concern and caring. When he falls for a prostitute and helps her to run away, I am reminded of Spike, who wanted nothing more than to run away from the syndicate with Julia.
->> Urahara Kisuke (Bleach)
It is mostly because of the hair and the permanent eyebags under Urahara's eyes that makes me think of Spike whenever I seem. They always look like they lack sleep or just woke up. Urahara, too, is an enigmatic study in contrasts. Like Spike, it is hard to tell when he actually cares for someone as he is never shows it; he simply watches everything from above. Their scruffy appearances hide their alertness, intelligence, and combat skills until they are necessary, often catching their opponents by surprise and increasing their advantage.
