Pushing the Sky ( 1 | 2 | 3 )

Each episode of Bebop always introduces us to a new facet of life in space so it never, ever gets old. Each "session" is fast-paced and crazy insane - although there are a few serious ones in between. As you'll see, the sessions usually contain some kind of musical/cultural reference in the title (they're usually anmed after songs, albums, films, and musical genres), and the really amazing thing is that the actual soundtrack of each episode is made to match them. It is yet another example of the series' incredible attention to detail.

->> Session 10: Ganymede Elegy
The Bebop crew lands in Ganymede to claim a bounty and Jet is reminded of his former love, Alisa. While they are there, news of a new bounty comes up, and Jet is forced to give chase to the new man in Alisa's life.

->> Session 11: Toys in the Attic
One by one, the members of the Bebop crew have fallen victim to a mysterious poison secreted by a yet-to-be-identified organism. Soon, Spike is the last man standing, and even he might be no match for it.

->> Session 12: Jupiter Jazz (Part I)
Spike's nemesis, Vicious, turns up once again with another sinister plot. This time, he's buying drugs in the frigid wasteland that is Callisto. Spike catches wind of an operation called "Julia" and leaves the Bebop determined to find out who's at the bottom of it all. Faye, meanwhile, has run away and later winds up in the company of a mysterious man named Gren. Once again, Spike's past rears its ugly head, and more about it is revealed.

->> Session 13: Jupiter Jazz (Part II)
The second half of the series' mid-season story arc reveals more about Spike and Vicious' history and about the complex camaraderie between the Bebop crew. Do you have a comrade?

->> Session 14: Bohemian Rhapsody
A mysterious plot to rob the Gate Company and its clients involving at least twenty people is abruptly foiled, but the gang can't claim any bounty until they find the mastermind. Their only leads are chess pieces, and their best hope seems to be Edward. Ed gets to play chess and Spike and Faye get to wear form-fitting space suits. Yay~!

->> Session 15: My Funny Valentine
The first Faye-centered episode, focusing on her past - at least, the bits of it that she can remember. Her true age is revealed, as is the reason for her mountainous debt. Spike dispenses some useful advice.

->> Session 16: Black Dog Serenade
It's a Jet episode.

->> Session 17: Mushroom Samba
An episode almost as insane as Toys in the Attic, Session 17 shows us that Ed is more than capable of catching crooks all by herself. When the Bebop, broken and out of fuel, crash lands in Europa, with Faye disabled by stomach pains and the boys distracted by repairs, Ed must go adventuring on her own in search of food.

->> Session 18: Speak Like a Child
A mysterious package arrives for Faye called a "Beta" tape and Spike and Jet are determined to find out what's in it. They descend to hell an underground museum, brave falling elevators, flooded halls, and caved-in corridors to get the right player. Of course, viewing Faye's tape isn't going to be so simple as that. The crew, and Faye, learn more about her mysterious past. One of Bebop's best-written episodes.
